The count is the difference in day numbers between today and the target date, so month lengths and leap years never throw it off. Set a different start date to count from a day other than today.
Reading the result
- The result is in whole days; a same-day target is 0 and tomorrow is 1.
- Weeks-and-days give a quicker sense of scale (e.g. "10 weeks 4 days").
- For a target years away, the count naturally includes every leap day in between.

Worked example
Suppose today is 7 July 2026 and your target is New Year, 1 January 2027. The tool counts the exact day-number difference — 178 days — regardless of the differing lengths of the months in between. Counting on your fingers month by month risks a slip; day-number differencing is exact, and it automatically accounts for any leap day that would fall inside a longer countdown.
